Wesley Paine Internship

Summer 2024

The Wesley Paine Internship is a paid internship that will develop and educate museum professionals from all backgrounds with an emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, and representation. Paid internships create a pathway for emerging professionals and ensures that future museum leadership reflects the rich demographics of our community.

The Wesley Paine Internship is up to 40 hours per week and will be shared across Curatorial, Education, and Collections Management departments. The internship period is generally 8 weeks, with work hours designed to accommodate the intern’s schedule as needed. The recipient of the Wesley Paine Internship will be paid $15 per hour on a bi-weekly basis.

Candidates for this internship must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. College students and recent graduates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Preference may be given to juniors and seniors majoring in art history, classics, education, fine arts, museum studies, public history, and/or related areas, and recent graduates with degrees in these fields.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit the following to Director of Education Helen Sanders at helen.sanders@nashville.gov during application period:

  1. Completed Summer Internship Application form here (or below)

  2. Personal diversity statement (approximately 200 words)

  3. Cover letter including your background experience, skills, or interests

  4. Resume

  5. Recommendation letter

    • The letter of recommendation must be emailed from your reference to Director of Education Helen Sanders at helen.sanders@nashville.gov by the application deadline with your name in the email subject line.

Deadline for Wesley Paine Internship Applications

Application period for Summer 2025 will open in January 1, 2025. Applications will be due by March 1, 2025.

The museum internship committee reviews completed applications after the application deadline, and selects candidates for interviews.  All applicants will be notified of their status.  All selected interns will undergo a background check.

Jesse Miller

Jesse Miller is a Global Citizens Honors Scholar at East Tennessee State University, working towards a BS in History with minors in Heritage Interpretation & Museum Studies and Digital Marketing. Originally from Middle Tennessee, Jesse enjoys learning about ways to make visitors with varying needs, backgrounds, and identities feel supported by museum programming. She was especially excited to gain hands-on experience at an institution she has admired since childhood.

Shelby Crawford

Shelby Crawford is working towards her Bachelor of Art in History and minors in Art History and Museum Studies at the University of California, Davis. She helped resurrect her university’s Art History Club after the COVID lockdown, and is now the club’s Vice President. Shelby has helped organized pop-up exhibitions on campus raising awareness of students’ mental health through their academic career. She enjoys reaching out into the community and fostering a new love for art.

Hannah Einhorn

Hannah Einhorn is earning her BFA in Studio Art at Belmont University. Originally from Alabama, Hannah enjoys absorbing the Parthenon's wealth of knowledge involving Southern history and culture both past and present. She has immersed herself in the growing Nashville art scene by working with the Red Arrow Gallery and the Parthenon as well as exhibiting her artwork across the city.

Parris Robertson

Parris Robertson earned her BA in History from Lipscomb University. Originally from California, where she earned an AA in Art History, Parris is passionate about working with museums to engage the public in conversations about Nashville’s rich history. She was especially excited to work in one of her favorite museums in Nashville to study the TN Centennial Exposition and Greek art history, applying her learning to education and curatorial projects.
