Press Release Red Arrow - Show Up!

Nashville Art Gallery Brings Together Artists, Enthusiasts, And Collectors In New Exhibition At The Parthenon

NASHVILLE, TN - (February 15, 2022) – The Parthenon and Centennial Park Conservancy are proud to present, Red Arrow – Show Up!, a group show in the East Gallery of the Parthenon from Friday, March 4 through Sunday, June 5. The exhibition celebrates Nashville’s Red Arrow Gallery, founded in 2014 with an ongoing mission to nurture the work and careers of emerging artists. A free opening reception will be held in the East Gallery of the Parthenon on March 3 from 6 - 8 PMReservations are recommended.

Marking the collective’s eighth anniversary, Red Arrow founder Katie Shaw, describes Red Arrow – Show Up! as “a curated selection of contemporary paintings, photography, and sculpture created by artists who are living and working now.”

These artists include, Aaron Worley, Annie Brito-Hodgin, Ashanté Kindle, Bethany Carlson-Coffin, Dana Oldfather, Daniel Holland, Danielle Winger, Desmond Lewis, Duncan McDaniel, Emily Weiner, Georganna Greene, Johnson Ocheja, John Paul Kesling, Julian Rogers, Lauren Gregory, Lindsy Davis, Matt Christy, Marcus Maddox, Marlos E’van, Nuveen Barwari, Pam Marlene-Taylor, Paul Collins,  Reneesha McCoy,  and Ripley Whiteside.

Reflecting on the exhibition’s title, Shaw notes that to “show up is to bear witness to another's joy, sorrow, and emotion, validating an experience or event. Showing up solidifies relationships and creates community, proving we are not alone.” She concludes that Red Arrow’s mission is to “quickly respond to what’s happening in the global art scene, to encourage artists to experiment freely, and to educate art enthusiasts and collectors about new work while creating an environment that is both risk-taking and welcoming for artists, collectors, and art appreciators alike.”

Parthenon programming is supported in part by the Sandra Schatten Foundation, Tennessee Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, Humanities Tennessee, National Endowment for the Humanities, Memorial Foundation, Jackson, and the Hays Foundation. The content of Parthenon exhibitions do not necessarily represent the views of our partners and underwriters.

ABOUT THE PARTHENON
The Parthenon, owned and operated by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County’s Parks and Recreation Department, is the city of Nashville’s longest-lived art museum. Opened as a museum in 1931, its galleries are the home of the distinguished Cowan Collection of American art and feature several temporary exhibitions per year. The galleries are housed on the lower level of the Parthenon, the world’s only full-scale replica of the fifth-century BCE temple in Athens, Greece. Beloved symbol of civic pride to Nashvillians since its original manifestation as the art building for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition in 1897, it welcomes hundreds of thousands of Nashvillians and visitors to the city per year.
